The Brief

Varjo is changing the way we see things in VR – and soon in AR as well. Varjo wanted to demonstrate the Mixed Reality prototype’s augmented reality capabilities.

ZOAN was responsible for creating all the 3D assets and game engine animations for the Mixed Reality demo. As the goal was to show the human-eye resolution of the Varjo headset, the 3D assets needed to be high quality and extremely accurate.

The Journey

To begin the ZOAN team went through a lot of research to find reliable references to be able to model a space station in high detail. It’s not like you can go to the space station and take pictures for references – this was something different. The second part of the challenge involved creating the 3D models and testing them. The resolution of the assets needed to be extremely high and everything had to be in real-time. We kept polishing, optimizing and fine-tuning the assets until they were as realistic as possible including all the lighting details.

End Result

Human eye resolution will show the full capacity of VR

Varjo made a showcase video demonstrating its high-quality pass-through augmented reality (AR) capabilities. ZOAN created all the high-quality 3D assets and game engine animations using Unity as a gaming engine. The footage was shot through Varjo’s early Mixed Reality prototype in real time – merging real and virtual worlds in cinematic XR for the first time ever. ZOAN is happy to collaborate with Varjo, and will continue to provide 3D for their launch.
